Digital
Digital quality speaks for itself and has arrived. We use a hi-res digital capture back capable of a 127mb file at 16 bit depth. (A 16 bit image has 65,536 levels of color information vs. an 8 bit capture device that has only 256 levels.) That translates into a 13x18 inch 300 dpi high fidelity color image. With interpolation a high resolution poster size image can easily be achieved.

The benefits of shooting digital these days are many. The workflow is fast and precise. We shoot using a Fuji GX680III camera body. The beauty of this camera is it has all the lens movements that a large format camera has, allowing for perspective and selective focus control.

As we shoot we view each capture on a color calibrated monitor. It is then possible to precisely place the image into your layout and view it with your clients while the subject is still on the set. Changes are easily made to fill your specifications and desires. We also provide a capture with a gray card in the shot so that color correction is fast and easy.

We shoot in RGB mode, process the RAW file out into Adobe1998 (or your preferred) colorspace and if you request, we can give you an 8 1/2” x 11” inkjet color reference print of the final image. Files are then burned to a cd-rom or dvd for delivery. Cost of a digital production is comparable to film however there are no costs to you later for scans at pre-press.

Film
Film is not dead. And sometimes we prefer to shoot film. There is a romance about film that cannot be denied. Many of our clients love to get an 8”x10” or 4”x5” transparency for final delivery and we are happy to oblige. I like to shoot Fuji Velvia film which has a saturation and contrast look that is all its own. For certain jobs and some of my personal work I prefer this medium. Also if the job is black and white there is no beating a custom black and white silver gelatin print. Many clients prefer a transparency that they can have and hold and refer to when on press. If we are shooting film, we decide on a format based on subject, use, and budget. We are equipped to shoot anything from 8”x10” to 35mm color transparency or black and white negative film.
